The name Labradorine comes from the province of Labrador in Canada. This stone was discovered in the year 1837 by E H Gibbons, who worked as a mining engineer at this time. He named it after his hometown called Labrador City in Newfoundland and Labrador Province. Labradorite Lemurian has a beautiful blue color and is made of aluminum oxide (Al2O3). It is often used in jewelry because of its unique properties. The word “labradorite” comes from the Labrador Peninsula in Quebec, where this gemstone was first found in 1871 by French Canadian miners.
