The crystal structure of Calacatta is trigonal with hexagonal indices, meaning that it has a “six-sided” shape.
Calacatta forms from the fusion of microscopic shells and sand particles found in the carcass of a small mollusk called the chitinoidea. This mollusk lives on warm, shallow reefs that are rich in calcium carbonate. The yellowish-brown color of calacatta comes from iron oxide, which is a component of the shell material.
The Calacatta stone has a reliable and durable structure that makes it easy to maintain. It’s stain-resistant nature makes it ideal for applications like countertops, flooring, and furniture.
The feature that distinguishes Calacatta marble is its veining. Calacatta’s veins are thick, bold, defined, and often colorful. Calacatta marble’s veins range from dark-gray and beige up to darker browns and even gold.
